CDM & Sri Lanka The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) is a mechanism defined under Article 12 of the Kyoto Protocol. It is expected that CDM will assist Parties not included in Annex 1 in achieving sustainable development. CDM will assist Annex 1 Parties in achieving compliance with their quantified emission limitations and reduction commitments under the Kyoto Protocol. CDM potential in Sri Lanka Sri Lanka acceded the Kyoto Protocol on 3rd September, 2002 and hence is eligible for CDM. In line with the Kyoto Protocol, the National Framework Policy for CDM has been developed. According to a recent estimate, Sri Lanka has the potential to claim about 6.2 million CERs.
